Reading the numbers
- Density: Huntsville spreads out. The densest ZIP here, 35816, has about 3,000 people per square mile, and most of the area has far fewer, which is why yards are big and most people drive.
- Veterans: the share of adults who are veterans runs well above the national figure in much of the area, a sign of Redstone Arsenal's pull.
- Housing age: the median year built tells you whether a ZIP is mostly older established neighborhoods or newer subdivisions.
