Harris Farms: 1,800-Home Community Planned in North Huntsville

Harris Farms is a 505-acre planned community north of the Northern Bypass (SR-255) and west of Memorial Parkway in north Huntsville.

The Huntsville City Council approved the rezoning in July 2026. According to the city, Axios and 256 Today, the plan calls for 1,883 homes: about 1,538 single-family homes on lots from 42 to 54 feet wide, including townhome lots, plus about 345 apartments. Roughly 350 acres are set aside as open space, with a pool, clubhouse and trails. Build-out is expected to take 15 to 20 years.

North Huntsville has not seen a new community this size in a long time, and the new North Village shopping center is going up nearby. Builders and phase one timing are not public yet. Join the list and we will send updates as they are announced.

Buying in a brand-new neighborhood

Before you visit a model home

  • Bring your agent on the first visit. Many builders only let a buyer's agent represent you if the agent is with you the first time you walk in. If you sign in alone, you may lose that option.
  • Know who pays us. Most builders around Huntsville work with buyer's agents and pay the commission. We confirm exactly how it is paid, in writing, before you sign anything.
  • Compare the incentives, not just the price. Builder offers usually come as closing costs or a rate buydown through the builder's preferred lender. We put the numbers side by side with an outside lender so you can see which deal is actually better.
  • Inspect it anyway. New homes still have defects. A pre-drywall inspection and a final inspection before closing are worth the money, and so is a walk-through before your one-year warranty runs out.
  • Read the covenants. HOA rules on fences, sheds, parking and rentals vary a lot from one neighborhood to the next.
