Homes with a Fenced Yard

If you have a dog, or just like your privacy, a fenced backyard is often a must. The MLS has no reliable fence filter, so this page reads every listing description for a fenced or privacy-fenced yard.

Counting... in Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties

Adding a fence after you buy can cost thousands, and some HOAs limit the style and height. A home that already has one saves you money and a project.

Listings mention everything from a full privacy fence to a fenced pasture. Check the photos, and ask what kind of fence it is and who owns it.

Homes for sale that mention a fenced yard

Found by reading the description of every active listing each time you open this page, so new listings show up the day they hit Valley MLS. The words are the listing agent's, not ours: confirm every detail with the listing agent before you rely on it.

Before you buy

  • Ask what kind and how old. Wood, vinyl, chain link and metal all age differently. Leaning posts and rotten pickets mean a repair bill.
  • Make sure it is on your side of the line. Fences are not always on the property line. A survey shows where the line is, and your title company or attorney can explain what it means for you.
  • Read the HOA rules. Many subdivisions control fence height, material and where it can go, including any replacement.
  • Check gates and gaps. If it is for a dog, walk the whole line for gaps under the fence and at the gates.

Questions

Can I add a fence after I buy?

Usually, but city rules and HOA covenants can limit height, material and placement, and some subdivisions require approval first. Read the covenants before you buy if a fence is a must.
